Bobby Bowden was known for his wide-open offenses, trick plays and aerial passing shows during his six seasons as West Virginia’s coach from 1970-75. He won 23 games his first three seasons at the helm and his 1972 squad was invited to play in the Peach Bowl before the program hit a lull in 1973-74. Then, Bowden’s team rebounded to win nine games, upset nationally ranked Pitt and defeated NC State in the 1975 Peach to finish ranked in the top 20. Bowden is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.
