Bio
Don Nehlen was West Virginia’s most successful football who built Mountaineer football into national prominence in the 1980s. Nehlen’s 1988 team posted an undefeated regular season and faced top-ranked Notre Dame in the 1989 Sunkist Fiesta Bowl for the national championship. Five years later, Nehlen had another undefeated regular season and met SEC champion Florida in the Sugar Bowl. The Bowling Green graduate won more games, coached in more bowl games and had more All-American players than any other coach in school history.
