Harry Anderson - 1898

Continuing financial difficulties in 1898 required West Virginia to once again employ a WVU student to coach the team on a volunteer basis, Princeton graduate Harry Anderson agreeing to take on the role for the season. Under Anderson, WVU won six of seven games and defeated Virginia 6-0 in Charleston for what was billed as the “championship of the South.” WVU students celebrated the great victory with bonfires and a parade in Morgantown.
