Bio
Mont McIntire, a tackle on West Virginia University’s football teams of 1906, 1907 and 1908, was appointed co-head coach along with Penn State star end Elza "Elgie" Tobin for the 1916 season. The duo performed that role for two seasons before McIntire assumed full responsibilities in 1919. Among McIntire’s 24 victories were wins at Navy in 1917 and at Princeton in 1919 – considered the two best wins of that era. McIntire’s 14 victories over a two-year period in 1917 and 1919 against an improved schedule helped West Virginia achieve prominence as an Eastern football power.
