Bio
West Virginia University great Ira Errett Rodgers had the impossible task of following in Clarence Spears’ footsteps in 1925. Rodgers’ first team comprised of Spears’ players won eight of nine games, and his 1928 squad upset Pitt to produce an 8-2 record, but his team’s declining performances in 1929 and 1930 forced him to step aside after just six seasons. He later returned to coach the football team for three seasons during World War II. Rodgers is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.
