Bio
Art "Pappy" Lewis had the longest tenure for a West Virginia football coach until Don Nehlen’s arrival in 1980. Lewis was known as a great recruiter who kept some of the most talented West Virginia performers such as Sam Huff, Bruce Bosley, Fred Wyant and Chuck Howley in state. He was the first coach to guide the Mountaineers to a major bowl appearance (1954 Sugar Bowl) and his 58 victories included four over arch rival Pitt and three against Penn State.
